SAO PAULO (AP) — Police in Brazil's biggest city say a driver lost control of his car and ran over 15 people standing on a sidewalk after leaving a church service. At least two people are in grave condition.
Police in Sao Paulo say they're trying to track down the driver, who fled the scene Sunday night after striking a group of people that included at least seven children.
Police said Monday they suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and possibly drugs. Substances that appear to be cocaine and marijuana were found in the abandoned car.
The car that struck the people shows the violence of the crash. Its windshield is smashed, along with the hood and front bumper.
