Al Jazeera's Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohammed were detained in Egypt in December 2013 on charges of airing false news and coordinating with the Muslim Brotherhood. They were eventually sentenced to seven to 10 years in prison, an unprecedented court ruling that sparked outrage and cries for press freedom worldwide.

On Tuesday, Egyptian court announced that the date for the appeals hearing would be Jan. 1, 2015.
Al Jazeera said that it will air a special 300-second video on Friday for the journalists -- one second for each day the three men have been in custody.
For the entirety of their imprisonment, thousands of journalists and supporters around the world have joined together for the #FreeAJStaff social media campaign, tweeting pictures with their mouths taped shut and standing together in solidarity.
